Where to get a confidential STI test in Medellín (and what to expect)

Maybe it was a condom that broke. Maybe it's a symptom you'd rather not Google at 2 a.m. Or maybe you simply started seeing someone new and want a clean baseline. Whatever brought you here: getting an STI test in Medellín is easy, fast and — done right — completely confidential.

Who should get tested (hint: more people than you think)

STI testing isn't only for people with symptoms. Most sexually transmitted infections — chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B — can be completely silent for months or years while still being transmissible and still causing damage. Testing makes sense if you:

The window period: when to test

Every infection needs a minimum time between exposure and a reliable test result. Testing too early can give a false negative. As a practical guide:

Don't worry about memorizing this — part of the consultation is building a testing plan around your dates and your exposure, so you don't waste money on tests that can't be trusted yet.

Worried about a very recent high-risk exposure to HIV? Don't wait for a test window. PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) can prevent infection if started within 72 hours. Message the office immediately and say it's about PEP.

Which tests are actually done

There is no single "test for everything." A proper STI check-up is a panel chosen based on your history:

What the visit is like

The consultation is a normal, calm medical appointment — not an interrogation. You'll talk through your history in plain language (English or Spanish), decide together which tests make sense, and get the lab orders. Samples are taken at a certified laboratory, and most results arrive within 24–72 hours. Then the most important part: the results are explained, not just handed over. A syphilis report, for example, is genuinely confusing to read on your own — numbers can stay positive for life even after cure.

Everything — booking, consultation, results — is protected by medical confidentiality. Nothing is shared with employers, insurers or anyone else.

If something comes back positive

First: breathe. Almost everything on the panel is either curable (chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis) or very manageable (herpes, HIV — modern treatment means a normal life expectancy and, with an undetectable viral load, zero transmission to partners). A positive result comes with a clear treatment plan, follow-up testing, and honest guidance on telling partners — without drama and without judgment.

Cost and booking

The consultation is paid directly (cash or bank transfer) — the exact fee is confirmed by the front desk on WhatsApp before you book, and receipts are provided if you want to claim it with international insurance. Lab tests are paid separately at the laboratory. In-person visits are on Tuesdays and Thursdays; virtual consultations (ideal for planning your testing or reviewing results) run Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Get tested without the awkwardness

Confidential, in English or Spanish, with results explained clearly. Same-week appointments are usually available.
