Tayrona, the Amazon, the coffee region, the Pacific coast — Colombia rewards the curious, and it also has yellow fever zones, malaria areas and mosquitoes with opinions. One consultation before you go (or right after you get back with a fever or a rebellious stomach) turns guesswork into a plan: the right vaccines, the right prophylaxis, and someone to call if the trip bites back.

Meet Dra. Maya

Fifteen years on the front line of infectious disease.

Dra. María Angélica Maya Restrepo has spent more than 15 years at the sharpest edge of infectious disease — from Colombia's top fourth-level hospitals to global pandemic-surveillance networks. She trained in internal medicine and infectious disease at Universidad de Antioquia and UPB, sharpened her data-science and genomic-surveillance skills at UBC (Vancouver), Stanford and McGill, and served as an Abbott / TEPHINET Pandemic Defense fellow and past president of the Antioquia chapter of Colombia's Infectious Disease Association (ACIN).

She advised the regional government through COVID-19. But what patients remember most is simpler: she listens, she explains in plain language, and she never makes you feel judged.
